Working with the Shaw Trust
At Oxil, we have always taken accessibility seriously, and have developed our accessibility products in partnership with clients to ensure that we can allow them to provide the level of service they require.
We have developed the Oxford text to speech service, the Oxford flash media player (with subtitles) and the Oxford subtitle editor. In addition to these services, we also help create accessible sites, and offer advice on accessibility and the changing laws in this area.
Our Oxford text to speech service was developed in partnership with a charity that supplies audio books for the blind and print disabled. As part of the development process we worked with visually impaired and print disabled users, so that we create a product that really benefits them.
With our research in this field, we realised that accessibility is more than just catering to the needs of our clients when they are aware that their customers need additional services, websites should be accessible to all, and so we visited the Shaw Trust, to aid our development.
Our work with the Shaw Trust has enabled us to improve our services and has inspired us on a number of smaller projects, such as improving our text to speech navigation service so that it now highlights the part it is reading aloud. We are also planning an accessible template which will be made open source, so there's no excuse for websites not to be accessible.
'Oxil realise the importance of ensuring this site is accessible to all their visitors. To this end they have commissioned Shaw Trust to undertake an Accessibility Audit which will be completed during 2008'
